The Dallas Foundation (TDF) and United Way of Metropolitan Dallas (UWMD) have a long history of working together to improve lives in Dallas. Both organizations celebrate milestones this year, TDF celebrating 80 years and UWMD celebrating 85 years of community impact. TDF has been a strong supporter of the work of UWMD through numerous collaboration efforts and the funding of several programs.
“Our two organizations share common goals – a deep commitment to bettering our community through support of its families,” Mary Jalonick, President of TDF said.
More recently, TDF has provided lead funding for two major initiatives launched by UWMD, Born Learning and Earn it!Keep it!$ave it!. Interested in getting results and making an impact, TDF learned of a successful financial stability program in Milwaukee, the heart of which is claiming the federal Earned Income Tax Credit. After researching what was being done in Dallas, TDF learned of United Way’s interest in the issue as well.
A significant three year investment of $50,000 each year, by The Dallas Foundation was made to the program. Along with the support of several other community partners, including the City of Dallas, Earn it!Keep it!$ave it! was launched and 29 volunteer tax assistance sites were opened in Dallas last week. The program is looking to double the number of EITC eligible returns this year.
For the past 80 years, TDF has been committed to improving lives in Dallas and making an impact on its families. In 1987, The Dallas Foundation hired its first full-time employee, Mary Jalonick, who now serves as President. In her role as President, she works with donors who want to improve the community and agencies that need their support. She is able to see both sides of the equation and facilitate matches that satisfy both the wishes of the donor and the nonprofit.
“By working together with organizations like United Way, we can make great strides in reversing the troublesome growth of poverty in our community,” Mary said.
United Way of Metropolitan Dallas would like to thank The Dallas Foundation and its team for the work they do in our community to support programs that make a difference in the lives of Dallas families.
