Rebecca Mullin, Human Resource Specialist with McLane Foodservice (MFS), demonstrates the LIVE UNITED call to action to Give, Advocate and Volunteer, in her community on a daily basis. A United Way volunteer since college, Rebecca began giving to United Way like many people do, through the workplace campaign at MFS in 2003. Her role as member of the steering committee for the United Way campaign through her workplace is a great example of how someone can advocate for a cause they are passionate about.
As a volunteer through United Way in college, Rebecca learned first hand the needs of the people in the community and the opportunity she had to get involved. Once employed with MFS her involvement increased. As she began giving through the workplace, she found opportunities to help the campaign grow. A steering committee member for the last several years to McLane’s Pacesetter program, she co-chaired the Pacesetter event in 2008. A Pacesetter is a company that sets the pace for the entire United Way of Metropolitan Dallas (UWMD) campaign by holding their employee campaign early.
“I plan to continue my participation with the annual company campaign. It is a great way to partner with your co-workers and introduce others to their community,” Rebecca said.
Rebecca’s volunteer spirit has led her to not only volunteer with United Way, but many of the UWMD partner agencies. She has volunteered with Big Brothers Big Sisters, rung the bell for the Salvation Army and served at a local homeless shelter. She is proud that MFS also looks for UWMD partner agencies to volunteer with.
At times during the past several years, Rebecca and her family utilized United Way to find services when her father was diagnosed with colon cancer and another family member was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. These organizations offered great tools and support to her family during a trying and stressful time.
A University of North Texas Alumni, Rebecca is married and enjoys running half marathons, scrapbooking, singing and anything related to fitness. She is proud of being the Health & Wellness Champion at MFS, a role that has given her opportunities to lead as well as learn.
United Way would like to thank Rebecca for LIVING UNITED by giving, advocating and volunteering in our community.
