Join the Live United Movement: Dallas, Collin, Rockwall & Southern Denton Counties
Yvonne Booker

As the current Director of Professional Services at Christian Community Action, Yvonne Booker has been Living United around the country for more than 10 years. She was an active volunteer with United Way in North Carolina, therefore when she moved to Texas, Yvonne immediately inquired about volunteer opportunities with United Way of Metropolitan Dallas (UWMD).

“Within 48 hours United Way staff was at my home with my first allocation notebook. Seven years and many allocation notebooks later I have remained committed,” Yvonne said.

As a United Way volunteer, Yvonne has served on several committees in various capacities. Her work with UWMD in Collin County included serving as Vice Chair and Chair of the Allocation Committee in 2001-2002, Chair of the Admission Committee in 2002-2003, Chair of the Special Grants Committee in 2003-2004 and Chair of the Board of Directors from 2004 – 2007.

More recently, Yvonne became Chair of the Destination:Graduation Collin County School Committee in 2007, the Destination:Graduation Policy Committee for UWMD and Chair for the Collin County Advisory Council in 2008.

When asked how she feels about her involvement in these processes, Yvonne said, “Excellent! I feel that of the many philanthropic organizations in the area, United Way by far leads the effort in using donor dollars for the community.”

Besides being a stellar volunteer for United Way, Yvonne is also involved with the Housing Commissioner and the Community Development Block Grant Committee for the City of McKinney. In her spare time she enjoys reading and volunteering. She has been married to her husband Bill for 25 years and has one son who will be graduating from the University of Tulsa this month.
