Walter McInnis, Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld

Walter McInnis, an Associate at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP has LIVED UNITED since 2004. His prior experiences as a social worker and juvenile probation officer working with gang-involved youth contributed to his current involvement with United Way. Despite his busy professional life as an attorney, Walter decided to get involved.

His previously mentioned experiences as a social worker and probation officer allowed him to see up-close the impact of United Way agencies on children and families in crisis as well as the need for these agencies to help him get his work done. This experience has led him to participating in the allocations process at United Way as well as helping to run a workplace campaign at his private sector employer. Walter is also one of the youngest members of the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas Tocqueville Society, a leadership society whose members give $10,000 or more per year.

When asked why he supports United Way, Walter responded, “United Way fosters an unparalleled synergy of the best efforts of social workers, community leaders and volunteers to make a difference in the lives of our neighbors in need.”

Walter earned a bachelor’s degree from TexasChristianUniversity in 1999 and a J.D. from Southern Methodist University in 2004. When he isn’t defending clients as a proud associate at Akin Gump, he enjoys skydiving and being with close friends. Along with his United Way involvement, Walter also provides pro bono legal services by accepting cases through the Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program.

Thank you Walter, for giving, advocating and volunteering in our community, that’s what it means to LIVE UNITED.
