Mario D. Vitale exemplifies what it means to LIVE UNITED. First moved by the United Way story presented during campaign rallies at IBM in 1976, Mario began giving right out of college. Not only did Mario give, but he jumped in and volunteered as well.

As an Associate Director for Ernst & Young, LLP (E&Y), his primary role is business development and management of several large E&Y clients. Despite his busy professional life, Mario has found time to develop his volunteer roles in the United Way system. He began volunteering as an employee campaign coordinator and eventually moved on to become a United Way board member in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He later served as the Campaign Chair in Bartlesville! His current role at United Way of Metropolitan Dallas is vital to the campaign’s success as a member of our Campaign Cabinet.

Mario was drawn to United Way because of the efficient method of giving. By giving through United Way he had confidence that his dollars would have an impact on the community without having to personally manage interactions with multiple organizations. “United Way has given me much more than I have given to it in time and money. It is the wonderful feeling that I get that, in some small way, I may have helped someone who has not been as blessed in their life as I have been, or who just needs some short term assistance to deal with a difficult situation,” Mario said.

Mario graduated from the University of Tulsa where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and an MBA. He enjoys golf, gardening and reading. When asked what he is proudest of accomplishing in his life, he said, “I am very proud of the 29 wonderful  years I have shared with my wife, and the fine young adults our two children have grown up to be.”
