David Coale

David Coale, a partner at Carrington, Coleman, Sloman & Blumenthal, LLP, has been an attorney for fifteen years. David's practice focuses on complex commercial litigation, including a wide range of contract, corporate governance, e-commerce, construction, and business tort issues. David became active with the United Way six years ago when he was asked to chair the United Way campaign at Carrington, Coleman, Sloman & Blumenthal. He accomplished this mission with the same gusto and focus with which he tackles all of his undertakings. He did this by committing himself fully, and becoming the resident expert on the United Way. His enthusiasm has been contagious. Today, Carrington, Coleman, Sloman & Blumenthal consistently holds rank as one of the top law firm campaigns. In 2007, they received a Heroes of Hope Outstanding Leadership Giving Campaign Award.

In 2003, the year after he chaired his internal campaign, a colleague that worked on the United Way Campaign Cabinet asked David to help promote the United Way with the Dallas Bar Association. He agreed to this new challenge because he had enjoyed being the United Way campaign chair at his firm more than he thought he would and the opportunity to do it in a different context seemed to be a worthwhile venture for him. This naturally led to a position on the United Way Campaign Cabinet in the law division in 2004.

David Coale helped the law division achieve record growth in 2007. Now in his fourth year as a United Way Campaign Cabinet volunteer, David Coale serves as the co-chair of the law division. With a thriving internal campaign and law division, David continues to be one of the United Way's most dedicated volunteers. When asked the reason behind his passion, David states two. First, he has had the opportunity to meet a number of youth that have been helped by Destination: Graduation, a United Way initiative focused on high school graduation rates. Witnessing the enthusiasm and empowerment shown by these children has been inspiring for him.

David has a second reason for his support. "I think the (Community Needs) assessment is terrific," David states. He is impressed with the process and appreciates that decisions are made with high quality information. Each year, attorneys from Carrington, Coleman, Sloman & Blumenthal serve as volunteers on Priority Needs Grants panels.

David is a consistent leadership giver for the United Way, and an active member of the United Way Young Leaders Society. He is also regularly lauded in his field. Texas Monthly has named him in every yearly list of "Super Lawyers." D Magazine listed him as one of the "Best Lawyers in Dallas" in 2007 and in 2008. D Magazine has also twice named him as a "Best Lawyer Under 40 in Dallas." When he is not practicing law or on the campaign trail with the United Way, David likes to spend time with his wife Margarita, a law professor at Texas Wesleyan University, and their three children, Caleb, Cecilia and Camden. The United Way would like to thank David for his commitment and his passion.
