Rita K. De Young’s experience with United Way began as a recipient of services from a United Way partner agency when she was a young mother, in Kansas, suffering from post-partum depression.
De Young says that because of United Way’s generosity, in her time of need, she chose to become a donor through a workplace campaign, believing her money would reach those who would benefit from it the most.
For more than four decades, she has been a United Way supporter, dedicating her life to improving lives in our community. De Young is currently a Leadership Giver, an individual who gives $1,000 or more annually to United Way.
She has been serving as a staff leader in United Way agencies in Florida and Texas for nearly twenty years. Her greatest accomplishment was leading a $4.6 million capital campaign to build the country’s first domestic violence center in 1996.
In her current role as executive director for United Way partner agency, Camp Fire USA Lone Star Council, she works with children to build caring, confident youth and future leaders. In an employment program for young adults ages 18 to 21, Camp Fire placed 67 percent of its clients in jobs where the client was able to retain employment for at least three months.
For her dedication to the community she serves through Giving, Advocating and Volunteering, United Way of Metropolitan Dallas would like to thank Rita De Young for LIVING UNITED.
