Cecily Gooch, TXU Energy

For more than a decade, Cecily Small Gooch has been a supporter of United Way of Metropolitan Dallas (UWMD). Only recently, though, did she become an advocate for the organization on the state level.

A founding member of the UWMD Women of Tocqueville (WOT), Gooch was asked to advocate in Austin. WOT is a network of successful women focusing their collective leadership abilities and financial power to support community priorities of United Way.

“For me, it was easy to say yes to advocate for United Way,” Gooch said. “I saw the potential of how impactful we could be.”

In February, Gooch and nearly a dozen other WOT members traveled to Austin for Pre-K Day at the Texas State Capitol to advocate for House Bill 130, a bi-partisan effort to expand high quality public pre-K in Texas. Read the full story.

Her experiences with United Way have helped her re-engage with volunteerism and advocacy and now are in alignment with her generous Tocqueville giving level of $10,000 or more annually.

To advocate means to spread the word and United Way offers the platform and identifies the need.

“United Way's thorough research of community needs and intelligent strategy to address them makes it easy to provide a voice for their vision,” Gooch said.

UWMD would like to thank Cecily Small Gooch for LIVING UNITED by giving, advocating and volunteering.
